Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum

3001 Central St, Evanston, IL 60201

Museums

Through its diverse collection and engaging exhibitions, the museum offers deep insights into Indigenous traditions, contemporary issues, and lasting legacies.

Permanent exhibits are dedicated to the Native cultures of the Woodlands, Plains, Southwest, Northwest Coast and Arctic regions of North America. Each gallery contains a “touching table” where visitors can handle real examples of Indian artifacts, as well as feel the raw materials—including snakeskin, caribou fur, birch bark, turquoise and buffalo skin—that were used by native Americans. Temporary exhibits showcase emerging and established contemporary Native artists. Lectures and performances throughout the year provide a venue for multicultural education.
