Chartered in 1895, Northern Illinois University first opened its doors as the Northern Illinois State Normal School in 1899 as a teachers' school. We have since grown into a world-class, research-focused public institution that attracts students from across Illinois, the country and the world.

Come tour the Northern Illinois University, catch a show or concert presented by the Theatre & Dance and Music departments, explore one of their Art Galleries, or immerse yourself in a STEM/STEAM event. There is much to do on campus including the Pick Anthropology Museum, an Observatory, the Huskies Den or take in a NCAA Div 1 sporting event! Their Museums are free to visit, some fees may apply for shows, sporting events, or concerts. There is never a dull moment on campus!
