The University of Chicago's Ceremonial Center

Rockefeller Chapel is the spiritual and ceremonial center of the University of Chicago, and a major performing arts producer, offering music, theatre, and visual arts events to citywide audiences. A leading venue for the choral arts, it is a prized event location for major speakers and international artists. It is the home of two world-class instruments, the carillon and organ. Resembling a medieval cathedral in appearance and size, it hosts festivals and ceremonies of many world religious traditions, as well as Sunday services where the soaring architecture is matched with the poetry and theatre of grand liturgy of diverse origins, and with the beautiful voices of its choristers.

During the academic year (late September through mid-June), Rockefeller Memorial Chapel is open to visitors from 11 am to 5pm, Tuesday through Friday, and during events on Saturdays and Sundays. See the Rockefeller Chapel website for details of events this week, or for any changes to opening hours.

The Laura Spelman Rockefeller Carillon is played live in recital Tuesdays through Fridays, 12 noon and 5 pm while the University is in session, and at weekends for events. During the academic quarter, we offer the opportunity for visitors to tour the tower for carillon recitals, Tuesday through Friday (the Chapel is closed to visitors on Mondays), and on Sundays. Check our home page for current details, including notification of academic breaks when we do not offer tours.
