Stoddard Tin Shop
535 S. Main Street, Nauvoo, IL 62354
Historic Sites
Visit the Stoddard home and view a restored 1840's tin shop, complete with tools and a demonstration of tinsmith techniques.
A good tinsmith could make a tin pan in 15 to 20 minutes. Tinsmiths in Nauvoo were very popular craftsmen because they made many of the items used in homes and farms. Lanterns, candle safes, candle holders, buckets, pots, pans and many other articles could be made quickly and economically from tin.
