Built around 1815, the Pierre Menard Home is a rare example of French Creole architecture overlooking the Mississippi River. Once home to Pierre Menard—fur trader, legislator, and Illinois’ first lieutenant governor—the house features a double-hipped roof and wraparound galerie. The ground level includes a museum and audiovisual room, while the second floor showcases the Menard family’s living quarters. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970, the home reflects early Illinois history and elegant frontier living. Illinois 250
